The center has a history of establishment dating back to 1956:

+ 1956-1987: Van Dien Agricultural Experiment Station..

+ 1988-1994: Rice Center (during this period, it still used the seal of Van Dien Agricultural Experiment Station). This was due to the merger of the Van Dien Agricultural Experiment Station with the Rice Breeding Department of the Vietnam Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology.

+ 1994-2004: Van Dien Agricultural Experiment Station (after the separation of the station and department as before).

+ 2004-2006: Technology Transfer and Agricultural Extension Center under the Vietnam Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology (due to the merger of Van Dien Agricultural Experiment Station with the Agricultural Technology Transfer Center).

+ 2006-2008: CLT&CTP Experimental Center, Branch II, under the Institute of Food Crops (due to the merger of the Technology Transfer Center with the Experimental Center).

+ 2008 to July 2010: Technology Transfer and Agricultural Extension Center under the Institute of Food Crops.

+ - From July 2010 to present: Technology Transfer and Agricultural Extension Center under the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Currently, the center is one of the 18 units under the Academy and serves as the focal point for technology transfer and agricultural extension for the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
