The Institute of Agricultural and Forestry Science in the Northern Mountainous Region

The Institute of Agricultural and Forestry Science in the Northern Mountainous Region was established under Decision No. 220/2005/QĐ-TTg dated September 9, 2005, by the Prime Minister and Decision No. 3407/QĐ-BNN-TCCB dated December 5, 2005, by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. The institute originated from the Phu Tho Agricultural and Forestry Research Station, which was established by the French in 1918.

Current Functions and Tasks

Develop agricultural and forestry scientific research programs, projects, and technology transfer plans to serve the socio-economic development of the Northern Midlands and Mountainous Region.

- Research, create, test, and develop agricultural and forestry plant varieties, and specialty crops with high commercial value, suitable for the natural and economic conditions of the region;

- Conduct research on tea and coffee to serve the whole country;

- Develop technical measures for intensive cultivation to increase crop yields, livestock productivity, improve the quality of agricultural and forestry products, effectively utilize natural resources, land, water, and protect the environment;

- Study rural issues and the agricultural and forestry market in the region.
