Functions

- Develop strategies, plans, programs, and projects for long-term, five-year, and annual research in agricultural and rural fields, submitting them for approval and implementing them upon approval.

- Conduct basic and applied research in agriculture, including:

  • Collecting, preserving, evaluating, and utilizing genetic resources of plants, insects, and agricultural microorganisms.
  • Studying genetic laws and variations at molecular, cellular, individual, and population levels in plants, fungi, and microorganisms.
  • Applying DNA technology and nanotechnology to research plant genome functions.
  • Using genetic and biotechnological methods to study genetic diversity and create initial materials for breeding plants, fungi, and microorganisms.
  • Focusing on biotechnology, physiology, biochemistry, agricultural genetics; safety, and biodiversity in agriculture.
  • Researching soil, fertilizers, and plant nutrition
  • Preserving and processing agricultural products.
  • Exploring agricultural and agroforestry systems.
  • Addressing agricultural environment, rural development, and climate change issues.
  • Preserving and propagating breeder and super-original plant varieties.
  • Applying radiation and isotopic methods in plant breeding, soil, fertilizer management, and plant protection.
  • Researching and assessing genetically modified plants and their products.
  • - Implement national key scientific and technological tasks.
  • - Develop new and advanced technologies in agriculture.
  • - Transfer technology and promote agricultural extension.

    - Participate in the national reserve network for seeds and agricultural supplies.

    - Conduct trials, inspections, and quality assessments of plant varieties, agricultural products, and agricultural materials.

    - Engage in international cooperation for research, technology transfer, expert collaboration, and training.

    - Collaborate on research, technology development, technical trials, and human resource training with domestic and international organizations.

    - - Engage in production, business, services, export, and import of agricultural and agroforestry products and technologies as per the Institute’s professional activities and legal regulations

    - - Participate in developing national standards, technical norms, and economic metrics in agriculture, submitting them for approval as per assigned tasks and legal requirements.

    - Publish scientific, technological, and environmental information, issue journals, and maintain specialized electronic information portals as per legal regulations.

    - - Appraise, approve research proposals, budgets, settlements, and review research project outcomes for affiliated units per state and Ministry regulations.
