Does my business have to do a greenhouse gas inventory?
Decision 13/2024/QD-TTg, in force from 1 October 2024, lists 2,166 facilities that must carry out a greenhouse gas inventory and report periodically. If your facility is on the list, it is mandatory. If it is not, there is no domestic obligation yet — but if you export into the EU within CBAM scope, the importing side will still require verified emissions figures.
What is the difference between validation and verification?
Verification assesses an assertion about data that has already happened — whether the inventory for the past period is complete, accurate and conforms to the criteria. Validation assesses whether the assumptions, limitations and methods behind a future result are reasonable, and is typically used for emission reduction projects.
Which standards does ISATS verify against?
ISO 14064-1 for organisation-level inventories, ISO 14064-2 for projects, ISO 14064-3 for the validation and verification process itself, and ISO 14067 for product carbon footprints. Figures and calculations are checked against the GHG Protocol.
What should we prepare before we start?
At intake we need the organisational boundary or the product life cycle scope to be assessed, the inventory period, the activity data for that period (energy, fuel and material consumption) and the inventory you have already prepared, if any. A detailed list matched to your sector follows once the preliminary data has been reviewed.
How long does a verification take?
There is no single figure: it depends on the number of facilities, the complexity of the boundary and how ready your data is. The process runs through seven steps, and the specific dates are fixed in the validation or verification programme at the planning step, before the on-site assessment.
How is the fee calculated?
The fee follows the scope of work established after the preliminary data review, so we do not publish a standard price list. Send your facility details through the registration form and we will respond with the scope of work, the documents to prepare and a quotation.
What do we get at the end?
The validation or verification report and the statement of results, issued after the file has passed independent review. That is the evidence you file with the regulator, share with customers, or submit to programmes such as CDP, GRI and SBTi.
