Plant Protection Research Institute (PPRI)
The institute was established under point (c), clause 1, article 2 of Prime Ministerial Decision 220/QD-TTg of 9 September 2005, which founded the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

The institute has 117 permanent staff: 27 with doctorates, 65 with master's degrees, 22 with bachelor's degrees and 3 technical support staff.
The Plant Protection Research Institute was established under point (c), clause 1, article 2 of Prime Ministerial Decision 220/QD-TTg of 9 September 2005, which founded the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences. It is a public research unit of the academy, responsible nationwide for research and technology transfer on crop pests and beneficial organisms in agriculture and forestry, on plant quarantine subjects, and on plant protection products. Its offices are in Duc Thang ward, Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi.
Duties
Develop long-term, five-year and annual research and technology transfer programmes, projects and plans in agriculture and forestry that serve national socio-economic development, submit them for approval and carry them out. Conduct research and technology transfer in:

Baseline surveys of harmful and beneficial organisms; building a gene pool of organisms used in plant protection; maintaining and building the national reference collections of insects, plant diseases, weeds, agricultural micro-organisms and natural enemies.

Research into insect pests, diseases, weeds and other threats to agricultural and forestry crops, and the means of controlling them.

Research into and application of biological control in plant protection.

Research into toxicology and residues, development of plant protection products, and use practices that keep food safe and protect the environment.

Research into and identification of plant quarantine subjects.

Risk assessment and pest management research supporting safe agricultural production.

Participation in breeding pest-resistant, high-yielding, good-quality varieties for the country's ecological regions.
Trial and test plant protection products. Deliver agricultural and forestry extension work on plant protection. Cooperate internationally on research, technology transfer, expert exchange and workforce training in plant protection, in accordance with state regulations. Enter joint ventures and partnerships with domestic organisations on research and technology development, trials of new techniques and workforce training in plant protection, in accordance with the law. Carry out commercial activity in accordance with the law. Manage and use its assigned staff, funding and assets effectively and lawfully.
