Northern Mountainous Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute (NOMAFSI)

The Northern Mountainous Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute was established under Prime Ministerial Decision 220/2005/QD-TTg of 9 September 2005 and Decision 3407/QD-BNN-TCCB of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of 5 December 2005. Its predecessor was the Phu Tho Agriculture and Forestry Research Station, founded by the French in 1918.
Functions and duties today
Develop research and technology transfer programmes, projects and plans in agriculture and forestry that serve the socio-economic development of the northern midlands and mountains.
Breed, trial and develop crop, forestry and speciality plant varieties of high commercial value suited to the region's natural and economic conditions. Conduct nationwide research on tea and arabica coffee. Develop intensive cultivation techniques that raise crop and livestock yields, improve the quality of agricultural and forest products, and make better use of natural resources, land and water while protecting the environment. Study rural issues and the markets for the region's agricultural and forest products.
