Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development

Between 3 and 28 October 1995, the 8th session of the 9th National Assembly passed the resolution establishing the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development by merging three ministries: Forestry, Agriculture and Food Industry, and Water Resources.

At its first session in August 2007, the 12th National Assembly decided to merge the Ministry of Fisheries into the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT (8/2007)

At its first session in August 2007, the 12th National Assembly decided to merge the Ministry of Fisheries into the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

On 3 January 2008 the Government issued Decree 01/2008/ND-CP defining the ministry's functions, duties, powers and organisational structure. The decree states that "the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is a Government body performing state management of agriculture, forestry, salt production, water resources and rural development nationwide; state management of public services; and exercising ownership of state capital in state-invested enterprises within the ministry's remit, in accordance with the law."
